    Mahina Pareo

This Mahina Pareo from Aloha Modern is available at Pop-Up Mākeke and will become a staple in your wardrobe collection thanks to its versatility.

The moon, Mahina, is a personified goddess Hina. She gave us the cycle of birth, life, death, and rebirth each month without fail. By her very nature of predictability, she was a reliable source of information that ensured survival for generations. Just as lunar patterns and cycles were distinguished by nightly observations, so were correlating patterns and cycles noted in the sky, land, and among living things on Earth.

Each cycle is made up of 30 days. Our lunar calendar is divided into three periods: ho‘onui (growing bigger), poepoe (round), and emi (decreasing).

The Hawaiian pareo can be worn as a beach cover-up, as a dress, as a skirt, or as a shawl. It can even be used for more than just a clothing or accessory piece. If you don't have anything to sit on in the sand or on the grass, it would make a great blanket as well. It would also make a great gift for any friend or family member, or it can add a pop of color to your own wardrobe collection!
