Dean Kaahanui

Rains of Waimea

This cow bone with various woods is a representation of all the elements of the rains of Waimea on the Islands of Hawaii where the gentle rain falls upon the land and brings growth.

Materials: black rope woven into the cow bone where we purchased the femur part of the bone from various meat markets and to boil and scrape and clean the meat off.

The next process is to let it dry naturally for a month before cutting the pieces to create the art piece. Dean has inlaid the bone with abalone shells as it represents the rains.
