Pīkake is the native Hawaiian name for jasmine. The Arabian jasmine (Jasminum sambac) was produced in India and is a shrub or climber with rounded, dark green leaves and small, white, very fragrant flowers used for leis. Princess Ka-ʻiu-lani was found of both flowers and her peacocks (pīkake); the same name was given to the flowers.
