Kaulana Mahina founder Haunani Miyasato is a mama to 4 keiki who go to a Hawaiian immersion school. Since Haunani needed to learn ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi in order to support their education, she returned to kulanui to learn it.
She took a class all about the moon called "Nohona Kaulana Mahina" at Ka Haka ʻUla o Keʻelikōlani with Kumu Henani Enos. After gaining so much knowledge from the class, Haunani wanted to put what she learned into practice. She compiled all of her haʻawina and placed it on a poster to use every day in her home.
With help from those around her, Haunani was able to create Kaulana Mahina in ʻōlelo Hawaiʻi. Kaulana Mahina provides teaching resources that are centered around the mahina from a Hawaiian perspective.
