Kahomelani's founder, Julia Asano, was born and raised in Hawaii and has always been exposed to the beauty and aloha of the islands. She graduated from Kamehameha Schools and was able to expand her knowledge and love for the Hawaiian culture.
Through those experiences, Julia decided that she wanted to intertwine her love for culture and land through her art! With support from her family, she works to make products that she feels capture the essence of Hawai'i. Her main goal is to bring products that the people of Hawai'i can connect to.
As a Native Hawaiian, since Julia is not fluent in the language, she does her best to incorporate it into everyday life. Hence, her shop labels: lole, pepili, mākēneki, and mea hoʻokohu. It is her hope that this will encourage others, including herself, to learn their meanings and normalize the Hawaiian language in the process.
