Puuhonua o Honaunau National Historical Park Wood Ornament

The fearsome kiʻi wooden ornament is a tribute to the actual standing wooden carvings that act as guardians of the sanctuary that, in pre-contact times, served as a safe place for defeated warriors, noncombatants, and those who violated the kapu (sacred laws). The Pu'uhonua o Hōnaunau remains a most sacred place to those who step foot on its grounds. Hawaiian royalty established important residential and ceremonial sites nearby at an area known today as the Royal Grounds. Made in Hawai'i. Product dimensions: 3 5/8 x 2 inches
